<Title> Latin Course Closes
Sadly our Latin for Beginners class has closed after a single week. WEA tutor, John Smith, reported that not one soul was in attendance. He went on to say, “Is est a tristis dies pro congregatio quod a tristis dies pro humanitas”. Which, as we all know, roughly translates as ‘It is a sad day for society and a sad day for culture’.
What does this say about the calibre of the citizens of Grumbleton? Latin is the bedrock of the English language, indeed the root of many western European languages. Native Radnorshire folk, in my experience, barely have a grasp of the Queen’s so I suppose it should be no surprise that latin transpired to be a non starter.
I pity the citizens of Grumbleton for not grasping this golden opportunity to better their understanding of our common heritage, preferring to indulge in soap opera and beer instead.
