During the last session there was a fair bit of discussion around some kind of unification between the WEA blogs whilst retaining a sense of individual flair in some form.
With this in mind here is how to pop the WEA logo onto your WEA blog side bar. (For those of you who wish to use other images/logos in the side bar, just skip item one of the following instruction.)
Now this should be as easy as 1,2,3 – however as with all blogging one will probably need to play a bit until the result is as splendid as one envisions!
One

Place you mouse over the logo and select Save picture as… from the right hand click menu. Save the logo somewhere that you gat to locally on your computer.
Two

Now open a new post and from the Insert menu select Add Image. Select your logo from where you saved it on your computer and then press upload. The box will say that it’s “crunching” but as we have said before, WordPress thinks its funny. You should then get a screen a little (a lot really) like the one above. Make sure that you highlight and copy the Link URL (shown highlighted in the picture above). Now close this image box and select the “appearance” section of the menu to the left of the page. A message will appear asking you if you wish to keep your post. There is no need to. We just rudely used this post to get our logo onto the server.
Three
From the appearance section of the left hand page menu select “Widgets” – remember its pronounced in a silly voice. Now, to the right of the widgets page are the sections of your blog that you can drag and drop your widgets into. This will differ depending which theme you have selected. Select the widget called Image and drag it to your desired widget area – some of you will only have one choice, some may have up to 4 choices.
Now your Image widget is placed where you want it press the little arrow on the widget to open it up. It should look something like the image below.

Unless you want to give your logo a title like WEA LOGO, leave the title box blank.
You should still have your image address on your clipboard from when you uploaded it into WordPress. Now paste it into the Image URL box.
Give your image some Alternative Text so that screen readers stand a chance of deciphering whether this is a decorative image or contains practical information.
YOU MUST HAVE ALT TEXT TO ENSURE ACCESSIBILITY FOR ALL READERS OF THIS SITE.
I have chosen to leave the other boxes blank until the Justify box. Play with these and see how you would like to do this.
By choice I have chosen Centre (yes, I know its American spelling)
As I want my logo to link back to the WEA main site I have put its address into the Link URL.
Press the blue save button and go and check out your hard work. If you need to amend or change this can easily be done by reopening your Image widget in your widget area and tinkering away. You can have more than one Image widget at once by the way.
Happy blogging
